Want to be like Zee...

While I am happy with my C25K accomplishments thus far, I would not be me if I didn't want more.

I want to be faster.

I know that endurance and strength is more important. I know that avoiding injury is most important.

Damn it, I still want to be faster.

I know that speed will increase with strength and endurance. I know this takes time. Especially because I am a 42 year old woman with diminished lung capacity and beta thalassemia minor who hasn't run on a regular basis since I was 19 years old.

Damn, damn, damn. I want to be faster NOW.

Sigh. I want to be like Zee.

Yeah, dipshit, Zee is an imaginary character in your HEAD. She runs easily because she has always run easily. And because she's imaginary! She doesn't get injured or worried or anxious unless the plot calls for it.

Looking up pictures of running redheads to cheer myself up.

Yes. You go, pigtail girl!

No. Not this.

Yes.

Double yes.

And I totally understand that wanting it NOW! I am so looking forward to getting new PRs in my 5 and 10Ks next year.

  2. Me too, I wanna be fast.

I made a promise to myself early on: only work on one thing in each workout. If you want to do speed, fine but you don't get to do new hills, distance, strength, different surfaces, or anything else.

So d1 of any week, you run your normal pace. For d2 (since it isn't a new distance) you can try speed but don't do any new paths or anything.

This has worked pretty well for me so far...

    1. So far I have had to concentrate on just getting through the workouts with all my joints aligned. Occasionally I also get distracted by story stuff. I know I can work on speed later. I keep reminding myself I haven't done this in twenty years and I sucked at it. I only tried running for a short time, after high school when I was thinking of going into the army for language school. I hated the running (I hated most physical exercise) but I really wanted that language school. I remind myself I've only been back at it for four weeks now...speed can come later. But once I finish the nine weeks I'll be studying up on how to increase speed.
